This Privacy Policy explains how Apps4Education Ltd ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use the Topick mobile app and related services (together, the "Service"). We're registered in the United Kingdom and operate Topick from topick.co.uk.

We've tried to write this in plain English. If anything is unclear, please get in touch using the contact details at the bottom.

1. Who we are

Apps4Education Ltd is the data controller for the personal information processed through Topick. You can contact us at [email protected].

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Display name: the name you choose to show other players in a game.
• Game activity: categories played, answers submitted, and scores within a game session.

Information collected automatically

• Device information: device model, operating system version, and app version. This helps us diagnose issues.
• Connection information: a temporary connection identifier so we can route real-time game events to your device.
• Crash and error data: if the app crashes or hits an error, we collect a diagnostic report (device type, OS, app version, stack trace) to help us fix it. This is processed via Sentry (see "Third parties" below).

What we don't collect

• We don't collect your real name, email address, phone number, or address through the app.
• We don't track your location.
• We don't access your photos, contacts, microphone, or camera (except the camera, briefly, when you choose to scan a QR code to join a game — and we don't store anything from it).
• We don't sell your data. Ever.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Run live multiplayer games (sending game events between hosts and players in real time).
• Show your display name and score to other players in the same game session.
• Diagnose problems, fix bugs, and improve the app.
• Protect against abuse, fraud, and technical attacks on our servers.

4. Legal basis for processing (UK GDPR)

We process your information on the following legal bases:

• Performance of a contract: running the games you join is the core service we provide.
• Legitimate interests: diagnosing crashes, preventing abuse, and improving the app.

5. How long we keep your information

• Game session data (display name, scores, answers) is held only for as long as the game is in progress and is deleted shortly after the game ends.
• Crash and error reports are kept for up to 90 days, then deleted.
• Server logs are kept for up to 30 days for security and troubleshooting purposes.

6. Children's privacy

Topick is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app does not require an account and does not request information beyond a display name. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

7. Third parties

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to run Topick:

• Apple — distributes the app via the App Store. Apple's handling of your App Store data is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.

Our own game servers are operated by us in the United Kingdom. We do not transfer personal data outside the UK or EEA except where necessary to use the third-party services above, in which case appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) are in place.

8. Security

We protect data in transit using TLS encryption and follow industry-standard practices for the storage and handling of any data we hold. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to keep your information safe.

9. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
• Ask us to delete your information.
• Object to or restrict our processing of your information.
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Because Topick doesn't require an account, the personal information we hold tied to you personally is limited. To make a request, contact us at the email address below and include enough detail (such as the approximate date and time you played) for us to locate any relevant records.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top. If the changes are significant, we'll do our best to notify you in the app.
